DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF GROUND OPERATIONS DIRECTOR (GOD)

The Ground Operations Director is appointed by the CEO “Accountable Manager”. Before being appointed he shall prove comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the airline Ground Operations processes and applicable regulations.

He reports to the CEO “Accountable Manager” and shall maintain close cooperation links with Flight Operations Director.

His function, main duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Ensure the safe, punctual and economically efficient ground operations of all Company flights by establishing or contracting out for adequate ground handling;
  • Take all required measures for the security of the aeroplanes, passengers, baggage and cargo, in cooperation with the Authority and the authorities responsible for the security at foreign aerodromes;
  • Establish, maintain and conduct training programmes which enable the ground personnel to safely and professionally conduct the ground handling and to act in the most appropriate manner to prevent acts of unlawful interference and, if such an act has occurred, to minimize its consequences;
  • Ensure, by regular checks, that ground personnel are being kept updated and properly instructed and that they are aware of their responsibilities and the relationship of such duties to the Company operation as a whole;
  • Closely cooperate with the Flight Operations Director when preparing ground operations related Operations Manual information;
  • Hold editorial responsibility for Company’s Ground Handling Manual (GHM);
  • Ensure that all legal requirements and the provisions of the AOC relating to ground operations are strictly observed;
  • Act as the Company’s representative to all authorities, as far as ground operations are concerned;
  • Ensure that all legal requirements and the provisions of the AOC relating to ground operations are strictly observed;
  • To conduct and maintain training programmes (when applicable) for ground handling personnel;
  • Have due regard for economy when concluding contracts with other companies providing ground handling services (apart from the overriding aspect of safety);
  • Monitor and supervise any contractor employed by the Company and ensure that they meet the required Company ground operations standards.

Ground Handling Manual (GHM) may additionally define role and discretionary power of the Ground Operations Director.
