DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF ENGINEERING & MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR (EMD)

Engineering & Maintenance Director is the person who institutes and maintains an effective and efficient administrative system to meet the economic and operating targets, while complying with the company policy and regulatory authority requirements and safety standard.

His function, main duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Ensure adequate resources: facilities, manpower, equipment, materials and finance are available for work performance;
  • Ensure the supervision of corrective actions in the review and overall continuous improvement of quality matters;
  • Direct the development, implementation of maintenance policies, procedures and systems for the Engineering & Maintenance Department to achieve good maintenance practices and standards;
  • Provide feedback to the CEO “Accountable Manager” any deficiencies regarding standards and finance, and issues affecting the function and performance of the department;
  • Maintain a continuous check and control to ensure that the company resources are properly deployed and utilised;
  • Ensure that the delegated responsibilities to each Department are clearly defined and their accountability for performance expressly understood;
  • Evaluate, negotiate and recommend suppliers, maintenance and repair facilities for the provision of maintenance, repair, overhaul and support services;
  • Provide manpower training to meet the level of skills and competencies required by the regulatory authority and job specifications;
  • Ensure that all operations conform to statutory, legal and regulatory authority requirements and any charges prescribed by them are promptly paid;
  • Ensure working environment is appropriate to the task being undertaken.
